    The Risk Solutions Division seeks to add a highly-skilled claim professional to its team.  This position will focus on high-exposure losses in a nationwide book of surplus lines business, including primary and excess claims under CGL and other policies.  Emphasis of this position will be contractor claims and will also involve handling coverage matters, including litigation.  In short, we are looking for a "major case" claim professional.  


    The person hired for this position will work from our downtown Cincinnati, Ohio corporate offices or, if not in the Cincinnati metro area, from home.  Willingness to travel, including overnight travel as needed, is required.


    Job title will depend on the successful applicant’s level of experience.



    • Investigate, evaluate, and resolve claims of the highest complexity and severity.
    • Draft coverage position letters with minimal supervision.
    • Manage complex litigation; attend mediations, arbitrations, depositions, and trials as necessary.
    • Set reserves within prescribed authority and submit written recommendations for reserves outside authority.
    • Frequent interaction with senior management, Corporate Claims, and others, will be required.
    • Comply with applicable company procedures and policies, statutes, regulations, and other legal requirements governing claims handling.
    • Respond to inquiries from underwriters and producers.
    • Maintain necessary adjuster licenses, including completing required continuing education.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.


    • 6-10 years of experience handling high-exposure general liability claims.
    • Excess/Umbrella claims experience required.
    • Experience with Surplus Lines business a plus.
    • Experience with Construction Defect claims is a plus.
    • Significant litigation management and negotiation experience required.
    • Catastrophic injury claims experience required.
    • Advanced coverage analysis experience required.
    • Experience handling Coverage B (particularly Intellectual Property) claims a plus.
    • Significant experience working with Microsoft Office applications and electronic claim files is required.
    • Must be open to travel, including overnight travel as needed.
    • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience and/or training.
    • CPCU designation a plus.
