    The products offered by the Ocean Marine Division helps marine businesses stay afloat! We have been protecting American businesses since 1872; from small family-owned companies to Fortune 500 corporations. The major product lines we underwrite within the Ocean Marine Division include: Commercial Hull; Luxury Yacht and Small Craft; Boat Dealers and Marinas; Building and Personal Property; Protection and Indemnity (P&I); Marine Liabilities inclusive of MGL, Marina Operators Legal Liability, and Ship Repairers Liability; Ocean Cargo; Vessel Pollution; and non-marine property and casualty classes to supplement these lines.


    The Ocean Marine Division is currently searching for an experienced Claim Representative or Senior Claim Representative who will work from the New York City Divisional office or the Cincinnati Corporate office. This position will handle a variety of property and casualty claims and will be cross trained in multiple ocean marine coverages. The position will be responsible for performing and resolving coverage, liability and damage investigations for both marine and non-marine claims.  Experience with the Building and Personal Property form and accompanying endorsements is a plus.  In addition, effective written, verbal and listening skills are required, along with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.


    • Responsible for Litigation management.
    • Verification of coverage and its application to the specific loss.
    • Investigation of coverage, liability and damages.
    • Investigative activities to include written and oral statements.
    • Obtaining all official reports from State and Federal government sources.
    • Verification and evaluation of damages, while properly managing expense.       
    • Effectively partnering with coverage and defense counsel.
    • Attending mediations.
    • Identifying third party contribution and recovery opportunity.
    • Drafting coverage position letters including reservation of rights and declination letters.
    • Instructing, monitoring and coordination of outside adjusters and vendors.  
    • Maintaining timely, professional documentation of claim activity.
    • Communication of loss prevention information to appropriate underwriting personnel.
    • Setting appropriate reserves within personal authority and making recommendations for reserves in excess of authority.
    • Traveling up to 20% of the time. 
    • Other duties as needed.


    • Bachelor's degree and 3-10 years claims experience, with a focus on either Property or Casualty experience.
    • Strong skills in customer service, verbal and written communications, and the use of technology.   
    • Exceptional time management and organization skills.
    • Must be willing to travel up to 20% of the time, including overnight and air travel.
    • Strong critical, analytical and investigative skills.
    • Excellent planning, time management and organizational skills.
    • Strong negotiation skills.
    • Must be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and have the ability to learn additional software programs.
