We are currently looking for an Senior Production Underwriter - Production Underwriting Specialist to work on Umbrella and Program accounts for our Great American Risk Solutions Division.  

 

The position will be located in our corporate headquarters in downtown Cincinnati, OH.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for profitability results and premium growth within assigned programs.
  • Serves as a contact and technical resource on underwriting policies, guidelines, processes and systems.
  • Leads in the development of training and communication materials and providing training as necessary for staff and external customers.
  • Provides underwriting management guidance for program administrators/agents/brokers/producers. 
  • Has responsibility for developing, implementing, communicating and monitoring compliance of company guidelines, policies, systems, underwriting processes and procedures.
  • Participates in program underwriting audits / reviews.
  • Recommends action plans and strategic direction for functional areas and maintains alignment with others to ensure successful development of entire program.
  • Recommends and leads in implementing new / revised policy language, pricing methodologies,underwriting procedures and eligibility.
  • Monitors profitability across assigned region (s) / territory / business unit and recommends actions that will result in writing more profitable business.
  • May analyze and report on program data across assigned region (s) / territory / business unit and recommends actions to achieve business unit's profitability goals and team objectives.
  • Collaborates with Underwriting, Product Development, Product Management, Information systems and other business partners for implementation of new / revised products and supporting services.
  • Maintains oversight of others’ compliance in accordance with company guidelines for underwriting eligibility, premium determination and policy forms.
  • Uses independent judgment and initiative to support business/program goals.
  • Maintains a high level of customer service.
  • Analyzes coverage and limit requests and uses independent judgment to decided what terms to offer.
  • Uses independent judgment for pricing business in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Assesses risk quality and compliance within company guidelines and initiates appropriate loss prevention actions.
  • Develops and maintains effective business relationships with internal and external customers / coworkers in order to attract and retain profitable business.
  • Interprets, explains and markets products and services of programs.
  • Provides technical advice to lower level positions and other functional areas.
  • May review / approve referrals from underwriting staff where a higher level of authority is required.
  • May have responsibility for the performance and coaching of staff and may have a participatory role in decisions regarding development, hiring, firing, performance management, pay increases, etc., for direct reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
Field of Study: Liberal Arts, Business or a related discipline.
Experience:  5 years of related experience. Progression toward certification in area of expertise preferred; appropriate certifications could include Associate in Underwriting (AU), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Program in General Insurance (INS) or Associate of Risk Management (ARM).
