The Alternative Markets Division of Great American Insurance is a leader in the development of long-term, profitable Captive partnerships with agents, associations, and large accounts (via group or single entity structure). 

 

Alternative Markets is currently searching for a Senior Claim Representative / Claim Specialist who will investigate and settle commercial property claims.  

 

The job grade and title will depend on the successful applicant's level of experience. 

Responsibilities

  • Investigates and maintains commercial property claims.
  • Reviews and evaluates coverage and / or liability.
  • Secures and analyzes necessary information (i.e., reports, policies, appraisals, releases, statements, records or other documents) in the investigation of claims.
  • Works toward the resolution of claims files, and may attend arbitrations, mediations, dispositions or trials as necessary.
  • May affect settlements / reserves within prescribed limits and submit recommendations to supervisor on cases exceeding personal authority.
  • Conveys simple to moderately complex information (coverage, decision, outcomes, etc.) to all appropriate parties, maintaining a professional demeanor in all situations.
  • Ensures that claims payments are issued in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensures that claims handling is conducted in compliance with applicable statues, regulations and other legal requirements, and that all applicable company procedures and policies are followed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years property claims handling experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivelant experience.
  • Familiarity with commercial property forms preferred. Thorough knowledge of insurance converages, investigative techniques, and claim adjustment procedures is necessary.
  • Must have strong knowledge of PCs and computer software, including MS Office. 
  • This position requires a high skill level in planning and organization, as well as written and verbal communications. 
  • Ability to manage and control independent adjusters, experts and outside counsel as necessary.
  • Continued professional development is required.
