The Alternative Markets Division of Great American Insurance is a leader in the development of long-term, profitable Captive partnerships with agents, associations, and large accounts (via group or single entity structure). 


The Alternative Markets Division is currently searching for a Senior Claim Service Specialist.  The person hired will serve as a liaison for service, maintenance, and account set-up related to Captive and Third Party Administrator relationships in multiple states and manage a book of complex casualty claims.  


  • Works with Claims, Marketing, Underwriting and Loss Control on account issues.
  • Performs loss run reviews to ensure appropriate claims handling in accordance with Great American practices and state requirements.  Negotiate and communicate special claim handling instructions with third party administrators.  
  • Serves as point of contact for service concerns and general questions.
  • Reviews and evaluates coverage and/or liability.  Collaborates and drafts Reservation of Rights, Excess and coverage letters for/with business partners. 
  • Works toward the resolution of claims files, and attends arbitrations, mediations, depositions, or trials as necessary.
  • Ensures compliance of claims handling pursuant to all state, legal, statutory and regulatory bodies to comply with all company procedures and requirements.
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations to executive management on internal and external issues of strategic importance to a product(s) and / or line of business.
  • Participates in new prospect marketing presentations and broker/agent presentations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 or more years of commercial general liability claims handling experience. Candidates with multi-line commercial claims experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Demonstrated ability to use the most effective methods of building rapport, demonstrating capability, gaining commitment and conveying ideas and information in order to develop and maintain client relationships.
  • We will rely on the person hired to frequently interact directly with agents and brokers so strong customer service skills are essential to this position.  
  • Knowledge of policy interpretation, coverage and liability investigation and injury evaluation.
  • Must be a highly effective communicator; both verbally and in writing. Able to communicate effectively with people at all levels from across the organization and with external contacts. Must be skilled at establishing and adjusting priorities as needed.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be open to travel up to 20% of the time, including overnight travel.
  • Must have strong hands on experience with MS Office including Word, Excel and Outlook, as well as the ability to learn proprietary software.
