Great American's Trucking Division offers a nationwide program that specializes in insuring the unique exposure of the For Hire Trucker. Our program focuses on the owner operator and small fleet markets, and we’re proud to serve the long haul trucking industry with insurance products and services dedicated to the success of the Owner-Operator.


The Trucking Division is currently searching for a senior claim representative for our dedicated subrogation unit.  This unit reviews and pursues recovery opportunities on collision damages for our insured owner-operators, workers compensation claims for our fleet employee drivers and Occupational Accident claims.  Recovery is pursued from a variety of sources:  traditional subrogation from at fault parties through their insurer, state workers compensation funds, reimbursement under coordination of benefits with major healthcare insurers, PIP carriers, medical pay provisions under commercial general liability, garage keepers coverage forms, pro-rata under “other coverage” provisions when multiple policies are in effect – to name a few.


  • Reviews and continues the pursuit of subrogation on a current case load.
  • Evaluates the legal liability on which to pursue recovery including the duty owed, breach of that duty, proximate cause and the damages in direct relation to the breach of the duty owed. 
  • Identifies and pursues avenues of recovery that may not have been investigated by the handling referring adjuster; directs the claims investigation when needed so that a proper foundation is laid on which to rule out or confirm the potential of recovery.
  • Takes the initiative when necessary to complete investigations.
  • Effectively communicates with policyholders, insurance adjusters, underwriters, attorneys and agents both in a timely and professional manner.
  • Establishes accurate recovery estimates based on the review of legal liability.
  • Maintains and controls the subrogation pursuit through collaboration with attorneys, vendors and insureds.
  • Writes effective contentions in Inter-Company Arbitration.
  • Ensures and processes loss expense payments and allocates recoveries in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Utilizes a diary system to pro-actively move claims toward recovery resolution.
  • Makes written recommendations for litigation, vendor utilization or for settlements above authority.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Ideal candidate will possess 6 months to 3 years of successful claims handling background, computers, and verbal and written communications, time management and organizational skills.
  • Possess functional knowledge of insurance claim handling and must possess the competency of initiative.
  • Working knowledge and experience with a variety of claims systems or possess the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new claims systems.
  • We are looking for an energetic person who has a desire to learn, apply their knowledge and negotiate subrogation claim settlements. We are looking for an individual to work in harmony with existing team members and to provide a positive impact on our financial goals.Must obtain and maintain required adjuster licenses.
  • Complete at a minimum of 15 hours of continued education per year for adjuster licensing.
  • Professional development in obtaining the AIC, SCLA, or other insurance designations is highly recommended as an ongoing development tool.
