Great American is currently seeking a senior claim processing technician for the Corporate Claims Division.  


  • Organizes assigned work and performs Claims processing and payment functions on large volumes of claims for one or more lines:
    • Composes, prepares, reviews and responds to correspondence.
    • Answers and responds to inquiries and gathers information.
    • May perform mail / file functions.  Utilizes the company system(s) to identify the appropriate recipient of correspondence within or outside the company.  Sorts and distributes mail.  Maintains / purges documents according to record retention guidelines and distributes files / file systems.
    • Performs general processing, may include updating manuals.
    • May assist with claims numbers, claims setup and entry, electronic imaging or indexing, statistical coverage verification, preparation / entry of claims transactions, preparation / processing recovery and processing drafts and forms.
    • May perform systems functions, including determining errors / corrections on company system(s).
    • May coordinate / maintain contractor system, assigned manuals, repetitive payment schedule and bulk billing system.
    • May receive / verify information on loss reports and expense and / or medical bills.
    • May perform calculations to evaluate benefits, such as for mileage, wages, disability or reimbursement payments.
  • Assists Claims staff in setting up appointments, keeping records, performing routine follow-up and ensuring that bills are sent out.
  • Provides support to Claim department in areas requiring specialized skills or knowledge.
  • Enters information into company system(s).
  • Prepares, orders and maintains records, reports, registers and schedules.
  • Updates claims files and maintains, corrects and / or updates data using office technology.
  • May assist in training less experienced Claim Processors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • 1 to 3 years of related experience.
  • College degree or relevant coursework a plus.
  • High school diploma is required.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to proofread and edit letters for spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors.
  • Ability to comprehend and pay invoices.
  • Accurate data entry skills.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to multi-task.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Team player who is customer service oriented and willing to assist others.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
