The Specialty Human Services Division (SHS) partners with independent retail agents and brokers to address the coverage needs and loss exposures of more than 7,000 human and social service organizations across the country.  SHS has earned the nationwide reputation as a premier carrier in this sector.


SHS is currently searching for Claim Representative / Senior Claim Representative.  Multi-line adjusters are encouraged to apply. 


The job grade and title will depend on the successful applicant’s level of experience.



  • Investigates and maintains claims.  Reviews and evaluates coverage and / or liability. Secures and analyzes necessary information (i.e., reports, policies, appraisals, releases, statements, reports or other documents) in the investigation of claims.
  • Works toward the resolution of claims files, and may attend arbitrations, mediations, dispositions or trials as necessary.  Must be open to travel, including occasional overnight travel as needed
  • May affect settlements / reserves within prescribed limits and submit recommendations to supervisor on cases exceeding personal authority.
  • Conveys complex information (coverage, decisions, outcomes, etc.) to all appropriate parties, maintaining a professional demeanor in all situations.
  • Ensures that claims payments are issued in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensures that claims handling is conducted in compliance with applicable statutes, regulations and other legal requirements, and that all applicable company procedures and policies are followed.
  • Other duties as needed.


  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3-5 years of related experience
  • Auto bodily injury (BI) and premises liability claims handling a plus.
  • Strong critical, analytical and investigative skills.
  • Superior interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent planning, time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and have the ability to learn additional software programs.
